How tone is measured
Every story is scored by the agent when it is collected, from −1 (very negative) to +1 (very positive). The score reflects how good or bad the reported event is, such as a project commissioned, a match won, a fire, an arrest or a price rise. It does not judge whether the reporting is fair.
The headline counts for about two thirds of the score and the summary for the rest. Scores of +0.15 and above are positive, −0.15 and below are negative, and everything between is neutral. When several newsrooms carry the same event it counts once, except in the newsroom breakdown.
This is automated word-level analysis. It handles Ghanaian news vocabulary like galamsey, dumsor and sod-cutting, but it can misread sarcasm, quotes and mixed stories. Treat it as a read on the overall mood, not a verdict on any single story.
